All that is was born in fire, a million stars disguised in flesh. But what is born in fire must end in ash.
John F Kennedy, October 17, 1962 [modified from the original] This Government feels obliged to report this new crisis to you in fullest detail. This urgent transformation of Cuba into an important strategic base constitutes an explicit threat to the peace and security of all the Americas. The size of this undertaking makes clear that it has been planned for some months. Neither the United States of America can tolerate deliberate deception and offensive threats on the part of any nation, large or small. Nuclear weapons are so destructive and ballistic missiles are so swift, that any substantially increased possibility of their use or any sudden change in their deployment may well be regarded as a definite threat to peace. Aggressive conduct, if allowed to go unchecked and unchallenged, ultimately leads to war. This nation is opposed to war. We are also true to our word. We will not prematurely or unnecessarily risk the costs of worldwide nuclear war in which even the fruits of victory would be ashes in our mouth; but neither will we shrink from that risk at any time it must be faced. It shall be the policy of this nation to regard any nuclear missile launched from Cuba against any nation in the Western Hemisphere as an attack by the Soviet Union on the United States, requiring a full retaliatory response upon the Soviet Union. My fellow citizens, let no one doubt that this is a difficult and dangerous effort on which we have set out. No one can foresee precisely what course it will take or what costs or casualties will be incurred. Many months of sacrifice and self-discipline lie ahead -- months in which both our patience and our will will be tested, months in which many threats and denunciations will keep us aware of our dangers. But the greatest danger of all would be to do nothing. Join in an historic effort to end the perilous arms race and to transform the history of man. The path we have chosen for the present is full of hazards, as all paths are. The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender or submission.

The 4th and final LP in the "IO" series. This is the earth element in the series--dense, thick, and heavy; progressing from classical compositions into more and more electronic arenas.

And with love and gratitude for the Daughter of the Wind, for your raw emotional feedback on every song; and for your love, anger, inspiration, and more.

Review of "IO Pulse" by PK:

Do you ever come out of a great festival experience with a theme song? The soundtrack to an epic weekend based on one pivotal moment? Many of you must be nodding your head. In fact, take a moment to think back and revel in nostalgia.

A favorite of mine was the very first Peppermill Fest. "Catamaran", by Candy Claws. Every time I hear that song, I’m brought back to the beautiful alpine lake we hiked up to back in the summer of ‘08. Some of the best times I’ve had. Except Candy Claws never actually made the trip north. They got stuck back in Colorado. However, because of all the build-up, that tune will always magically be linked to those experiences.

"The Witching Wall", the opener on San Jaya Prime’s new album IO Pulse, falls in the same category. Although it’s opposite, as when I hear it I picture all the sites and sounds and sand of Black Rock City. And in this case, Jaya Prime actually did attend and perform. I was the one who never made it. Stuck in Canada.

So I’m naturally quite curious how Burners in attendance were affected by this music. Maybe I’ll have my chance in 2012? I’m optimistic this will sound just as vital in that desert utopia a year from now.

Anyhow, I’ve lived vicariously through Pulse often in the past weeks. It starts off orchestral and slowly adds more and more electronic elements. It’s his most ambitious effort to date… a collaboration of live recording and midi and samples and loops that plays on a central melodic theme, evolving as the album progresses. Interestingly, every track lasts exactly 3:30, before seamlessly transitioning to the next variation… I like how this helps create a pulse, a beating heart behind it all, while exploring a wide range of musical influences and the artist’s own spirituality, which runs deep and resonates artistically on some level even for us atheists. I may not understand everything going on with this highly conceptual work, but it’s intriguing and will inspire many more listens.

I believe Jaya’s most defining moments are still ahead of him, however there’s some true moments of brilliance here. It leaves me anticipating his next steps.
